Guye Adola won the Berlin Marathon 2026 in 2:02:50 and Tigst Assefa won the women's race in 2:11:04, a course record. Both are Ethiopian. Added together, the two winning times made it the second-fastest marathon in history, according to the organizer. Individual results for every finisher are on the official BMW Berlin Marathon results page.

The women's race: a course record on one leg

Assefa went through halfway in 1:04:57, the third-fastest halfway split ever run in a women's marathon, and was on world record pace. In the final kilometers she suffered a partial tear of her Achilles tendon and limped over the last two. She still held on and finished in 2:11:04:

  • Course record, 49 seconds faster than her own 2:11:53 from 2023.
  • Third-fastest women's marathon in history.
  • 68 seconds outside the world record.
  • Third Berlin win after 2022 and 2023, and her third Berlin course record.

Her winning margin was 5:49. Ethiopia swept the podium. Bedatu Hirpa was second in 2:16:53, two seconds ahead of Dera Dida (2:16:55). The fastest German woman was Anna Langerwisch, 16th in 2:27:31.

The men's race: Adola's second title

The lead group passed halfway in 1:01:01. Adola won in a personal best of 2:02:50, his second Berlin title after 2021, 29 seconds ahead of Gemechu Dida. His previous best dated from his marathon debut, also in Berlin, in 2017.

Wheelchair races: Hug's eleventh

Marcel Hug of Switzerland won the men's wheelchair race in 1:23:28, his 11th Berlin title. He led by 41 seconds at 5 km and finished almost six minutes clear of the field. His compatriot Catherine Debrunner won the women's race in 1:35:01, her fourth Berlin win and her third World Marathon Majors victory of the season.

The field

  • More than 56,000 entries from 162 nations for the marathon, the organizer's figures.
  • More than 84,000 participants across the whole race weekend, a record.
  • 50,067 finishers in the official results.
  • 4:13:54 combined for the two winners, second only to one earlier race by the organizer's count.
  • It was the 52nd edition, run on 27 September 2026, and one of the six World Marathon Majors.
